E-Land Retail is going after the retail-SPA market with NC Basic—pairing smart prices with solid quality
NC Basic will relaunch its first model store on March 1 on the first floor of NC Songpa, in a 198㎡ space (about 2,131 sq ft). Billed as Urban Basic Wear, the collection widens its apparel range and adds innerwear, loungewear and accessories—about 130 items in total.
The brand’s motto is “WEAR THE BEST, EVERY DAY.” From denim-forward everyday pieces and polished work looks to workout-ready activewear and cozy lounge sets, NC Basic will offer a broad seasonal color palette and a complete item lineup.
The expanded assortment covers apparel (cardigans, shirts, sweaters, denim, skirts, and more), innerwear (camisoles, women’s underwear, men’s drawers), loungewear (pajamas) and accessories (bags, hats, socks, scarves).
E-Land Retail’s retail-SPA model centers on retailer-designed and -produced fashion labels sold through its own channels, letting the company deliver standout price competitiveness. With fast supply lines into department stores, outlets and big-box retailers, E-Land can move affordable product to customers quickly.
Retailer-owned fashion labels are a global trend: Macy’s and Walmart in the U.S., Tesco in the U.K., and AEON in Japan all run private fashion brands using SPA-style models.
According to E-Land Retail, NC Basic performed well last year despite pressures from high interest rates, inflation and exchange-rate swings—so-called “the three highs”—by appealing to value-conscious shoppers. The brand posted sales in the 10 billion KRW range (approximately $7,500,000) last year.
Through its fashion subsidiaries, E-Land operates roughly 30 women’s, men’s, children’s and casual brands, handling in-house planning and production via overseas sourcing teams and its own factories. Leveraging 45 years of overseas garment production know-how and networks within the E-Land Group, the company is positioning NC Basic as high-quality Urban Basic Wear.
While price points remain reasonable, E-Land diversified overseas sourcing to secure top-tier materials that determine product quality. Global fabric sourcing experts targeted A-grade mills in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Vietnam, Bangladesh and India, and E-Land integrated control from yarn to production and finishing—sourcing fabrics used by well-known international brands.
Signature pieces for the 2025 spring/summer season include a Premium Linen Shirt and Premium Linen Pants. By blending 100% European linen with cotton and viscose, they created shirts that resist wrinkling. To do this, they partnered with more than 20 A-grade European-linen mills to co-develop fabrics and produced the garments at E-Land’s India facility (ELAND APPAREL LTD).
Currently, E-Land is the only domestic retailer with its own overseas garment production infrastructure.
E-Land Retail lowers retail prices by overseeing fabric development, production and sewing through sourcing offices in China and Bangladesh and production units in Vietnam, Myanmar and India. It also uses common SPA cost-saving tactics—off-season production, advance planning and large-volume manufacturing.
This year, to amplify its fast-fashion capabilities, E-Land set up a dedicated overseas team and created a single SPA team. After small domestic test runs, popular items are reordered and restocked within 2–5 days through a tightened SCM (Supply Chain Management) system.
About 80% of NC Basic’s range is priced at ₩30,000 or less (around $22.50), which gives the brand strong price appeal. Denim is the top seller: a wide selection of fits—straight, tapered and bootcut—was priced at ₩19,900 (about $14.93) and ₩29,900 (about $22.42), roughly half the price of many domestic and global SPA denim offerings, and sold 150,000 units last year.
Sweaters like the NC Basic Wool Blended Sweater also topped 140,000 cumulative sales last year. For the 2025 spring/summer season, the brand will launch a new 100% wool Whole-Garment Wool Sweater. Made from natural wool, it offers a soft, cozy touch and is knit using whole-garment (seamless) construction for a comfortable fit and natural silhouette.
An E-Land Retail spokesperson said, “NC Basic grew by word of mouth on product strength alone, without paid advertising. We’ll expand categories beyond apparel to include innerwear, loungewear and accessories, and increase store sizes to create a fresh shopping experience. Using our innovative manufacturing capabilities, we aim to lead the retail-SPA market by offering products with unbeatable price competitiveness.”
