On KBS2's Sadanggui, chef Jung Ji-sun was taken aback when he learned his son Woo-hyung had spent 290,000 won (≈ $217.50) in one month.
In episode 354, airing today (the 26th), Woo-hyung admitted, "I've been spending too much lately — I spent 290,000 won (≈ $217.50) this past month," a confession that left Jung Ji-sun wide-eyed.
Jung asked, "Where are you spending all that money?" and questioned why Woo-hyung, whose allowance is 50,000 won (≈ $37.50), was spending 300,000 won (≈ $225.00). Woo-hyung said he's been learning by watching his father trade stocks and that holiday pocket money and stock gains have been filling the gap — an explanation that only heightened Jung's frustration.
When Jung warned that an elementary school student spending 300,000 won (≈ $225.00) a month was excessive, Woo-hyung pushed back: "It wasn't 300,000 won — I spent 290,000 won (≈ $217.50)." Jung shot back, "Whether it's 290,000 or 300,000, it's the same," and glared as he tried to rein him in.
The two then clashed over what constitutes a reasonable monthly allowance for an elementary student. Jung argued for 50,000 won (≈ $37.50) a month, while Woo-hyung insisted on 200,000 won (≈ $150.00). The heated exchange plays out on the broadcast as viewers watch to see whether Jung can curb the spending habits of his 13-year-old son, who has just entered puberty.
