YUJU will release her new single First Love Is a Curse at 6 p.m. on the 29th across major online music platforms.

First Love Is a Curse explores the ache of a memory made painful by its beauty. The song suggests that becoming a curse to someone is to turn into a devil disguised as an angel.

YUJU co-wrote and co-composed the new track, shaping it with her distinct musical voice. With repeated songwriting credits that have underscored her abilities as a singer-songwriter, she is expected to further refine and define her artistic identity with this release.

Photo The following is YUJU's Q&A

Q. This marks your comeback about eight months after the mini-album In Bloom. How does it feel to return?

▷ I wanted to release as many songs as possible without long gaps between them. I’m having a lot of fun creating new material and preparing to release it.

Q. What kind of song is First Love Is a Curse? What message do you want to send, and what should listeners notice?

▷ The song is about someone who lingers in another person’s mind like a first love and follows them forever. I feel the lyrics in the second verse are the song’s key point.

Q. The title First Love Is a Curse is striking. Where did you find inspiration?

▷ I realized that unresolved feelings in relationships linger the longest. In love, people often suffer more from beautiful memories that leave questions and regrets than from relationships that reached a clear end. I wrote this song imagining the protagonist disappearing while leaving only a lovely image—no blame or resentment—so they would remain in the other person’s mind like a first-love curse.

Q. If you had to sum up First Love Is a Curse in one keyword, what would it be?

▷ A dream you have again just as you're starting to forget.

Q. Any memorable moments while preparing this single, such as recording or filming?

▷ I always focus when I record, but for this song I wanted to be even more immersed, so I carefully selected the perfume and outfit I would wear on the recording day.

Q. You participated in writing and composing again. What did you focus on during the creative process?

▷ I usually turn the themes that linger in my head into songs. First Love Is a Curse came from that process—I poured emotion into every element, from the track and melody to the lyrics and visuals. I wrote short, offhand-sounding lines so the emotion would land without long explanation.

Because I believe sincere music has power, my producer, the director, and I all immersed ourselves in the protagonist’s perspective while working on this song.

Q. Do you have any goals or plans with this comeback?

▷ I hope this song becomes the moment that establishes a clear musical identity for YUJU—so listeners recognize what my music sounds like.

Q. A message to fans who waited for your comeback.

▷ Thank you for always sharing my excitement, feeling my pain, and celebrating my happiness. I’ll be LoveU (official fandom name)’s first love.
