Yuji Ohno, a leading Japanese composer and pianist, has died at 84.
The artist’s agency said on the afternoon of the 13th, via its official social media account, that Yuji Ohno, their composer and jazz pianist, died on May 4 of age-related causes.
The agency said he spent his final moments as he normally would and passed away peacefully in his sleep without pain. They expressed deep gratitude for the extraordinary support he received during his life.
After debuting as a jazz pianist in the early 1960s, Ohno released numerous works — including the soundtrack for the anime series Lupin III — and was a longtime contributor to the development of the music industry. The family held funeral rites privately, attended only by close relatives in accordance with their wishes. Additional memorial events to honor him will be announced later.
The statement said the “Lupintic All Stars Produced by YUJI OHNO” concert scheduled for the 30th will proceed as planned.
