Recently, a post titled 'A clever parking villain has appeared' went viral on an online community. The post included a photo showing a motorcycle blocking a Kia Ray and recounted an apartment parking dispute.
Suspicious motorcycle parked in the lot's prime spot
The poster began by saying their apartment complex has chronic parking shortages. They had noticed a motorcycle occupying the lot's "golden" space for months and initially paid it little mind.
Over time, however, they saw the same motorcycle and a Mercedes alternating in that spot. According to the poster, the Mercedes driver apparently used the motorcycle to reserve the desired space, moving the bike aside only when it was time to park the car.
The poster wrote in frustration that the motorcycle and the Mercedes belonged to the same person, who claimed the prime spot with the bike and then pushed it to the side to park the car.
A Kia Ray driver's act of justice — and the parking villain's retaliation
The situation escalated when a Kia Ray driver moved the motorcycle and parked in the spot. The poster said an A4 sheet with a note had been taped to the Ray's rear window. They believe the Mercedes owner then used the motorcycle's handlebar lock to trap the Ray and left the note.
Paying motorcycle tax instead of a parking fee?
One striking line in the note reportedly read, "I pay car tax." That argument falls apart on inspection: vehicle tax and parking fees are entirely separate.
Moreover, motorcycle tax this year is only about 18,000 KRW (approximately $13.50) annually, while monthly public parking fees in central Seoul run roughly 150,000–200,000 KRW (approximately $112.50–$150.00 per month).
Community reaction
Online reactions were mixed. A few users called the Mercedes owner's tactic inventive and even amusing. But most condemned the behavior as an infringement on other residents' parking rights and said they couldn't fathom confusing car tax with parking fees.
One commenter observed that parking problems are common across apartment complexes but said they'd never seen someone reserve a spot so creatively, calling the Ray driver a local hero.
