Wavve, South Korea’s online streaming service, is beefing up its hyperlocal news coverage.
Wavve said it has added channels with a regional focus and specialized programming, moving beyond its existing mix of terrestrial broadcasters, general-entertainment outlets, news networks and business channels. The expansion is meant to let viewers catch local and hometown coverage anytime, anywhere.
Its news section currently features terrestrial news from KBS, MBC and SBS, alongside outlets such as TV Chosun, MBN, JTBC, YTN and Yonhap News TV. Business-focused channels — including Korea Economic TV, Maeil Business TV, MoneyToday Broadcasting and SBS Biz — are also part of the lineup.
The platform now carries live channels and on-demand video from regional private broadcasters, including KNN (Busan·Gyeongnam) and JTV (Jeonju). Viewers can also access LG HelloVision’s live news channel and core report VODs from major stations like CJB (Cheongju) and TJB (Daejeon).
Wavve plans to add more regional news channels to its roster, including G1 Broadcasting (Gangwon) and TBC (Daegu·North Gyeongsang). The company says it aims to create a unified news network where national and local coverage are available on a single platform.
With this expansion, users can now find not just national headlines but also local reporting on the economy, society and culture that shape daily life. Wavve intends to meet demand for localized coverage by distributing regional stories through live channels and VOD.
The service is also strengthening live programming. It is expanding sports broadcasts — including live coverage of every KLPGA and KPGA professional golf event — to give viewers a place to watch both news and sports.
Wavve is broadening the viewing experience beyond mobile devices to larger screens like smart TVs. The company plans to expand everyday touchpoints, positioning the platform to encompass dramas and entertainment as well as news and sports.
