The Asian Journalists Association said on May 11 that it has elected Lee Ki-woo, a former vice minister of education, as its seventh chair.

Lee was chosen at an extraordinary board meeting held May 4 at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul. Attendees included former chair Gu Bon-hong; former lawmaker Bae Gi-seon; Oh Ji-chul, chair of the Heart-Heart Foundation; Bishop Kim Geun-sang of the Anglican Church; and Ko Myung-jin, director of the Yeongwol Media and Journalists Museum.

Lee has served as vice minister of education, president of Incheon Jaeneung University, chairman of the Korea Teachers' Credit Union, and CEO of Gyeongin Broadcasting. He currently serves as president of the National Institute of Korean Studies.

Founded in 2004, the Asian Journalists Association was established by media professionals across Asia, including South Korea, China and Japan.

At the recent extraordinary board meeting, the association discussed plans to establish an Asian Press Center (APC) and steps to expand exchange and cooperation among member countries.
