[TV Daily reporter Hwang Seo-yeon] IU and Byeon Woo-seok bring electric chemistry to MBC's new Friday–Saturday drama 21st Century Great General's Wife. The leads of the series, written by Yoo Ji-won and directed by Park Jun-hwa, which premieres on the 10th, discussed the key dynamics of their characters and how they developed their on-screen rapport. In the drama, Seong Hee-joo (IU) appears to have it all but carries the stigma of being an illegitimate child and a commoner. Lee An, the prince (Byeon Woo-seok), is the king's son who has lived hidden and deprived of any true claim to power. To try to change their fates, the two enter a marriage of convenience. Byeon echoed the sentiment: \"IU and the entire staff showed me a lot of consideration and support during filming, which really helped our chemistry,\" he said, hinting at a warm atmosphere on set. Set in a 21st-century, constitutional-monarchy version of South Korea, 21st Century Great General's Wife centers on a wealthy woman who chafes at her commoner status and a sorrowful prince who seems to have nothing.
