(The CEN News / Reporter Yoo Seo-hyun) Geoje City, in South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, is launching a new program to subsidize travel for visitors.
On the 10th, the city announced a pilot called the "2026 Shimkung-Seomkung Geoje Half-Price Trip" designed to draw visitors and give the local economy a boost.
The program is aimed at teams of two to four people who live outside Geoje and stay at least one night in the area. If travelers submit proof within seven days of their trip, they'll receive 50% of eligible expenses reimbursed in local gift certificates, up to 200,000 KRW (about $150).
To qualify, teams must stay at a Geoje-area accommodation for at least one night and visit at least one paid attraction and one traditional market. The entire team must post a photo showing all members on their personal social media, and total spending must reach at least 100,000 KRW (about $75).
However, the refund does not cover lodging fees, rental cars, fuel, or expenses at adult entertainment venues.
Participants can pre-register online on the Geoje Half-Price Trip websiteon from the 13th through the 29th of next month; the program will close early if the budget is exhausted. Travel must take place between the 15th and the 31st of next month.
A Geoje City official said the pilot will be used to measure tourist demand and satisfaction and to decide whether the program should be expanded.
