[mdtoday = Reporter Yang Jeong-eui] Singer Yumi broadened her musical palette with the release of her new single, "Love Always Blooms Again," on April 28.
The song drew notice because trot singer and television personality Jang Yoon-jung contributed the lyrics and composition under the pen name Janggongjang.
Jang, who served as a master on the TV competition "Miss Trot 4," said she was inspired after seeing Yumi perform and decided to begin work on the song.
Explaining the concept, Jang said, "Singers often follow the thread of a title, as with Yumi's signature 'Love Is Always Thirsty.' With this song, I wanted to express the hope that Yumi will no longer be thirsty — that she will bloom again in love."
"Love Always Blooms Again" is anchored by a rich blues rhythm.
A sensuous saxophone drives the arrangement, leaving a vivid impression, while Yumi's delicate emotional phrasing and resonant vocals add depth and polish to the track.
With this release, Yumi said she plans to expand her musical range.
"I don't want to settle into one genre," she said. "I'll keep experimenting across styles, and I hope to be remembered as a defining voice of my generation."
Industry observers are watching to see whether Yumi — who has steadily built her musical identity through regular releases and live performances — can achieve both mainstream appeal and artistic depth with this new single.
