[EPN Enpinow reporter Go Nari] Kim Seheon, leader of the band Eve, has shared how the group came to perform the song \"When You Do That,\" the track that captured widespread attention.
In the Season 2 episode of KBS1’s music program Back to the Music, broadcast on the 5th, Kim Seheon—who helped introduce glam rock to Korea between 1998 and 2001—appeared as a guest.
Glam rock—the style David Bowie helped popularize across Europe in the 1970s—was first introduced to Korean audiences by Eve. The band found fans well beyond the indie circuit.
Eve also gained recognition in Japan as part of the visual kei movement. Japanese metal and hard-rock magazine BURRN praised the band’s musical craftsmanship and highlighted their distinctive atmosphere.
Contrary to the band’s intense image, the name \"Eve\" came from a moment of simple inspiration. Kim Seheon, searching for a band name around Christmas Eve, initially liked \"Evening\" to capture that sense of anticipation, then shortened it to the concise \"Eve.\"
At a time when he was unsure about going solo, Kim began listening to demo tapes from emerging songwriters. He was particularly struck by a track called \"When You Do That\" by G. Gorilla. After listening for about an hour, he was deeply moved and decided to bring G. Gorilla into a collaboration with Eve.
After Eve released their first album in April 1998, \"When You Do That\" grew into a hit within a year, and G. Gorilla joined the group as its fourth member.
Critic Runoracus observed that Kim’s voice has a rare quality—an aching emotion that comes through even without shouting. G. Gorilla added that Kim’s true charisma is revealed onstage. Eve members Park Woong and Kang Chang-yong said Kim combines mesmerizing expressiveness with the warm presence of an older brother.
Kim currently resides in Japan, releasing a new song each month while preparing a new album project.
