[EPN Enpinau reporter Go Nari] Actor Lee Sang-bo has died at 45.
On March 27, his agency, Korea Management Group, said it is investigating the circumstances and will release further details as they are confirmed.
Authorities confirmed that Lee was found dead on March 26. Police responded to a family report, attended the scene and are now probing the cause of death.
In 2022 Lee was tested after allegations of drug use; he told investigators that a positive result stemmed from prescribed antidepressants he was taking. A subsequent, more detailed analysis by the National Forensic Service returned a negative result, clearing him of the charge.
He made his acting debut in 2006 on KBS2's drama The Invisible Man, Choi Jang-soo, and went on to appear in a range of projects including Daughter-in-Law's Heyday, Miss Monte Cristo, Elegant Empire and the film Secretly, Greatly.
Lee starred in Miss Monte Cristo, which drew ratings in the 17% range when it aired and became a hit. The drama follows a woman betrayed by her friends, driven to the brink of death, who then vows revenge and fights to reclaim her life.
Last year Lee signed an exclusive contract with his agency and was preparing his next project. His sudden death has left fans and colleagues deeply saddened.
