So Yu‘s ’Off Hours': 5 Reasons Why This EP Will Redefine Indie Pop in 2026

Translation result. 가수 Singer Soyou unveils a deeper emotional range and a broader musical palette on her third EP.

Soyou returned today (29) at 6 p.m. with her third EP, Off Hours(오프 아워스), released on major streaming platforms. Ahead of the release, her label, Magic Strawberry Sound, shared a track preview on its official social channels and then posted a music-video teaser for the title track "Girl," ramping up fans’ anticipation.

In the teaser, Soyou drew attention with bold new styling that marked a departure from her previous looks. The sleek visual direction creates a free, chic mood and leaves viewers eager for the full music video. Even a single pair of sunglasses casually draped over her jacket radiates charisma, completing a striking visual narrative.

The album is framed as time set aside for oneself amid a busy life; it candidly explores her feelings and inner life as an individual, not just as a musician. The title track "Girl" is an indie-pop song built on tight, dry drum sounds, bright synths and rhythmic guitar. Soyou co-wrote the lyrics, adding authenticity to the song’s message.

The song’s memorable chorus and repeating rhythms stick with the listener. With the direct line "I am not a cool girl," it frankly expresses an inner self that falters within society’s expectations—an honest sentiment many listeners should relate to.

Since joining Magic Strawberry Sound in 2025, Soyou has cemented her musical identity with a husky timbre and nuanced expressiveness. She demonstrated an expanded range with the pre-release single "See Through" and continued to deepen emotional nuance with the OST "Tonight" for ENA’s Monday–Tuesday drama Scarecrow.

Returning with more candid stories and deeper feeling, Soyou aims to broaden her musical territory and forge a stronger emotional connection with listeners through Off Hours.

Off Hours(오프 아워스) is available today (29) at 6 p.m. on major streaming platforms.

Through concept photos, Soyou signaled both a visual and musical shift, revealing everything from natural everyday moments to inner turmoil. The album package—which includes concept photos, a 72-page photobook, photocards and a four-cut photo strip—received praise before release for its varied visuals and delicate sensibility, and for capturing Soyou’s distinctive, immersive atmosphere across the record.
