The Ministry of National Defense has selected 20 defense projects to fast-track the adoption of commercial artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and will invest a total of 40 billion KRW (30 million USD). On the 30th, the ministry announced the new defense projects under its \"AI Applied Products Rapid Commercialization Support Project.\"
The program will fund 20 initiatives across four priority areas — combat support, personnel reduction, operational efficiency, and cyber/security — where AI integration is expected to deliver significant effects and strong military utility. The ministry plans to disburse government funds by the end of next year.
The ministry will evaluate proposals, select implementing organizations in June, and aims to complete all projects by the end of next year.
Jeon Jun-beom, director of the Defense AI Planning Bureau at the Ministry of National Defense, said, \"We will continue expanding AI capabilities that service members can use in the field and accelerate the development of an advanced, AI-enabled force.\"
