The U.S. military announced it will seize any unauthorized vessels that enter the restricted zone beginning at 10 a.m. local time on the 13th, when Iran's blockade is set to begin.
Reuters reported that U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) warned mariners in a notice that it will impose a blockade in the Arabian Sea east of the Gulf of Oman and the Strait of Hormuz. The order applies to all vessels, regardless of nationality.
The notice said, "Any vessel that enters or departs the blockade zone without authorization will be subject to interdiction, forced to return, or seizure." It added that the blockade will not interfere with neutral transit routes passing through the Strait of Hormuz to or from destinations outside Iran.
A day earlier, the U.S. said it would block all maritime traffic entering and leaving Iranian ports in response to Iran's announced blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM said it would not interfere with vessels whose origin or destination lies outside Iranian ports.
