Global hotel chain Wyndham has opened its first directly managed hotel in South Korea.
Wyndham Goseong, Gangwon — perched on the East Sea — hosted a glamorous grand opening gala on March 27, welcoming about 200 domestic and international VIPs before officially opening its doors.
Themed "The First Light of the East Sea — Hospitality Begins in Goseong," the launch ditched the usual ribbon-cutting for a dramatic "Sunrise Key Moment" performance that evoked the dawn over the East Sea. The evening flowed from an Emerald Ballroom reception and welcome performances to an official opening ceremony and an intimate dinner gala.
All 529 rooms boast views of the East Sea — the hotel’s headline feature. Facilities include an infinity pool, a private pool zone, and Ananas, an all-day dining restaurant. The property is intentionally designed as a mixed-use destination aimed at leisure travelers, families, and MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) groups.
Ben Schumacher, vice president of Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Asia-Pacific, said, "This opening marks an important milestone as our first directly managed hotel in Korea. It will help us strengthen our position in South Korea’s rapidly recovering tourism market." Wyndham currently operates seven brands and 29 hotels in the country.
Wyndham Hotels & Resorts is the world’s largest hotel-franchise company, operating more than 8,300 hotels across roughly 100 countries.
