[Sports Seoul | Reporter Wi Soo-jung] Say goodbye to rental-car chaos at LAX. A new consolidated rental car center has opened at Los Angeles International Airport, and officials say it will make travel far more convenient for passengers.

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) announced the official opening of the consolidated rental car center at LAX. The facility is a central piece of the airport’s modernization plan and was built to handle the expected surge in travelers ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The new center spans roughly 600,000 m² — about 6,458,340 sq ft, or nearly 148.3 acres — making it the second-largest concrete building in the U.S. after the Pentagon. It’s part of the 5.5 billion USD (approximately 7.33 trillion KRW) Airport Access Modernization Project (LAMP) and brings together 12 rental companies that were previously scattered across the airport into one streamlined location.

That means travelers can rent and return cars with less fuss. Fueling, car washes, and light maintenance are all handled on-site, and a shuttle connects the terminal to the facility to simplify passenger flow.

Twelve global brands operate at the center, including Avis, Hertz, Enterprise and Sixt. Each provides on-airport service, meaning they can pick up customers directly at the airport.

John Ackerman, LAWA’s CEO, called the opening “an important step forward in improving the airport experience,” adding that the center will offer more efficient travel for the influx of visitors expected for the World Cup and beyond.

Construction began in 2019 and proceeded in phases. Officials say the project will support LAX’s broader brand renewal strategy and help elevate the overall passenger experience. wsj0114@sportsseoul.com
