(The CEN News / Reporter Seo-hyun Yoo) From rolling waves of emerald barley to handcrafted tea bowls and soothing hot springs, spring festivals celebrating local character are popping up across the country. Set against warm-weather backdrops, these seasonal events blend scenic landscapes, regional traditions, and hands-on activities to create memorable experiences for visitors.
The Gochang Green Barley Field Festival, Mungyeong Tea Bowl Festival and Yuseong Hot Spring Culture Festival each lure spring explorers with their own charms. If you’re planning a weekend escape, these unique festivals are worth a look—they offer nature, tradition, and relaxation all in one.
23rd Gochang Green Barley Field Festival
The 23rd Gochang Green Barley Field Festival runs through the 10th at Hakwon Tourist Farm in Gochang County, North Jeolla Province, under the theme \"Spring Memories, Left on the Road.\" As a signature nature festival for the area, it invites visitors to wander through endless green barley waves and soak up the season.
The festival features hands-on programs such as a UNESCO Seven Treasures scavenger hunt and guided walks along paths through the barley, bringing nature up close. Street nongak (traditional farm music) performances and busking add lively cultural touches that enhance the festive mood.
Onsite food booths highlight Gochang specialties like barley rice and fermented barley bread, giving visitors tasty local bites to enjoy while they explore.
2026 Mungyeong Tea Bowl Festival
The 2026 Mungyeong Tea Bowl Festival runs May 1–10 at Mungyeong Saejae Provincial Park in Mungyeong, North Gyeongsang Province. Under the theme \"Mungyeong Tea Bowls: Newly Beautiful,\" the festival showcases the value and beauty of traditional ceramics through modern interpretations.
Mungyeong pottery is fired in traditional wood-fired mangdaengi kilns at temperatures above 1,300°C (2,372°F). Craftspeople favor natural charm and rugged beauty over flashy techniques, producing pieces that many say bring a calming warmth to the user.
The festival includes tea-bowl exhibitions, live pottery demonstrations, and invited international artists, including participants from Australia. Premium and everyday-ware auctions give visitors a chance to experience the artistic value of Mungyeong tea bowls firsthand.
Interactive programs are plentiful. \"Smart Pottery Living\" lets visitors try the full process of making a tea bowl. Other hands-on activities—throwing bowls, tea ceremony workshops, and even tea-bowl breaking events—appeal to young adults, Gen Z, and family groups alike.
2026 Yuseong Hot Spring Culture Festival
The 2026 Yuseong Hot Spring Culture Festival runs three days from May 8–10 at Yurim Park in Yuseong District, Daejeon. Built around the history and healing properties of Yuseong’s springs, the festival blends hot-spring culture with science-focused programs to highlight the district’s distinctive character.
Visitors can try hot-spring foot baths and scent-sachet workshops, among other hands-on attractions. A transparent aroma-therapy dome will feature programs using five signature scents to offer moments of relaxation and refreshment.
Performances are varied and energetic. DJs and hip-hop acts—including Domino Boys, Han Yo-han, and Raewon—are set to heat up the festival. A \"70s–80s Romantic Concert\" will also be staged for older audiences, creating programming that different generations can enjoy together.
Yuseong District intends to use the festival to promote both its identity as a science city and its hot-spring tourism, offering hands-on attractions designed for families and younger visitors alike.
