[Sports Seoul | Reporter Wi Su-jeong] ModuTour has unveiled its "2026 Alpenroute" campaign just in time for the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route’s famed snow-wall season—one of Japan’s most sought-after spring escapes.

The company announced on the 10th that the promotion centers on the snow-wall season, a limited window visitors can experience for only two months each year.

The Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route cuts across the Northern Alps—often called Japan’s roof—and links Toyama to Nagano. Open only from mid-April to late November, the route covers roughly 2,400 meters (about 7,874 ft) of elevation change using a scenic mix of cable cars, ropeways, highland buses and electric buses so travelers can soak in sweeping mountain views.

At Murodo, sitting at 2,450 meters (about 8,038 ft), the famed snow corridor opens from April 15 to June 25. Winter snows pile into towering banks along the road, forming monumental walls as high as 20 meters (about 66 ft) that you can walk between—an iconic, season-only experience that draws travelers every spring.

A highlight of this campaign is improved access: ModuTour is operating direct charter flights to Toyama. By securing seats through charter services with Asiana Airlines and Jin Air and routing through Toyama Airport—right next to the Alpenroute—the company shortens travel time compared with options through Nagoya and gives guests more time in the must-see sections.

The lineup also expands departure choices: in addition to Incheon–Nagoya and Incheon–Komatsu direct flights, ModuTour is offering departures from Busan and Cheongju to Toyama and Nagoya. These regional options and linked nearby-area itineraries were added to reflect varied traveler needs.

The flagship offering is the [Direct to Toyama] 4-Day Alpenroute Snow Wall package. The itinerary crosses the Alpenroute and includes the Murodo snow-wall walk, with multiple modes of transport arranged so travelers can experience the Northern Alps from different perspectives.

The trip also features a ride on the Torokko train through Kurobe Gorge—the largest V-shaped gorge in Japan—and a visit to Shirakawa-go’s gassho-style village, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Guests stay at onsen hotels and can savor regional specialties like Toyama’s masu no sushi (trout pressed sushi).

For bookings on the Toyama direct-charter products, ModuTour offers discounts for groups of three or more and will gift one box of the Alpenroute specialty confection Hoshino Shizuku per booked room.

“The Alpenroute snow walls are a limited seasonal attraction available only about two months each year, and they consistently attract strong interest every spring,” said Lee Woo-yeon, head of ModuTour’s product division. “By operating direct Toyama charter flights and securing a variety of air seats, we’ve expanded our product lineup so customers can enjoy the Alpenroute more conveniently.” wsj0114@sportsseoul.com
