[iNews24 Reporter Park Jong-su] On the 12th, Buan County and Da-il Byeonsan Tourism Development Co. kicked off construction with a groundbreaking ceremony for the large-scale Gyeokpo tourism development project on the lawn at Buan Film Theme Park.

The project began with a call for private operators in September 2020. By August 2024, officials had finalized and announced a tourism-and-leisure master plan for the Byeonsan district, and this month they secured all the permits required to build the golf course and hotel, clearing the way to move the project forward.

Following the ceremony, the county and Da-il Byeonsan Tourism Development said they will start full-scale construction of an 18-hole golf course and a 67-room hotel.

The project aims to build tourism infrastructure—golf, lodging, and related facilities—centered on the Gyeokpo area to attract both domestic and international visitors and stimulate the local economy.

Officials expect the development will do more than attract day-trippers. By strengthening Gyeokpo as an overnight tourism hub, the project should energize local businesses and create quality jobs, producing positive ripple effects across the regional economy.

The groundbreaking was attended by Kwon Ik-hyun, chief executive of Buan County; Kim Ho-seok, chairman of Da-il Development Group; Kim Jeong-gi, a member of the North Jeolla Provincial Council; and leaders from various local organizations.

A county official called the ceremony a meaningful milestone and said that once the tourism facilities begin operating, they expect the initiative to revitalize local commerce and generate quality employment.

The official added that the project is expected to help counter rural decline and inject fresh momentum into the local economy, and pledged full administrative support to ensure successful completion.

Chairman Kim Ho-seok said he felt honored to launch full-scale development after long preparations and vowed to carry out the project with dedication and responsibility to create a prestigious golf course and tourist facilities beloved nationwide.

He added that they will do their best to develop facilities that harmonize with the natural beauty of the Byeonsan Peninsula and help Buan take another step forward as a pleasant coastal tourist city.
