Turkey sits at the crossroads of Europe and Asia along the Mediterranean, drawing more than 50 million visitors a year to its sun-soaked resorts and rich cultural destinations. The Kaçkar Mountains in the northern Black Sea region, with year‑round outdoor infrastructure and dramatic natural scenery, are staking an even stronger claim in the global tourism market.

The Kaçkar range, which spans Rize and Artvin provinces, is one of Turkey’s most pristine regions, crowned by a highest peak of 3,937 meters (about 12,915 ft) and home to roughly 50 high‑altitude lakes.

Outdoor lovers flock here for year‑round hiking and trekking, and in winter they trade trails for snowshoeing and heliskiing against spectacular snowy backdrops. From September 11–13, the mountain ultramarathon "KAÇKAR BY UTMB" will take place, further cementing the area’s reputation as a global sports‑event hub.

The region also offers rich local culture and wellness offerings. The haunting sound of the traditional highland instrument, the tulum, and the energetic horon dance give visitors an authentic, unforgettable local experience.

The clear waters of the Ayder thermal springs provide a restorative wellness escape. Pair that with the region’s celebrated Black Sea tea, organic honey, and fresh seafood, and you’ve got a culinary scene that adds real flavor to any Kaçkar getaway.

Meanwhile, with support from Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Turkish Tourism Promotion and Development Agency (TGA), the "Kaçkar International Tourism Expo" will be held at the Rize Tea Bazaar on April 17–18. About 4,000 domestic and international officials and visitors are expected to attend to discover the Kaçkars’ appeal.

A Ministry of Culture and Tourism official said, “The Kaçkar Mountains are an irreplaceable destination where pristine nature, dynamic sports, and deep traditional culture come together. We plan to nurture the Kaçkars into a global cradle of nature, culture, and adventure.”
