Haenam County is using the opening of Haenam Station as a launchpad for new rail-connected tour packages designed to draw more visitors.

On March 1, the county said the programs will run from March through December and include five curated packages. They feature departures from the Seoul metro area and the Yeongnam (southeastern) region, using the KTX high-speed train and dedicated tourist trains.

The spotlight is on hands-on, local experiences that let travelers dive into the region’s culture—think temple stays, traditional liquor workshops, and kimchi-making sessions.

Some packages are already on sale and showing strong demand. The Daeheungsa temple stay, in particular, sold out quickly after it launched.

Rail-based tourism pilot aims to boost longer stays

The packages combine attractions, lodging, and local food to encourage visitors to extend their trips. This effort, developed with Korail Tourism Development, is an experiment in building a tourism model that leverages rail accessibility.

Bookings are available through Korail Tourism Development’s website or by phone. Haenam County plans to keep expanding rail-based offerings to strengthen connections with local businesses and grow the regional economy.
