Taeyang has released a documentary chronicling the making of his new album, offering a window into deeper musical reflection and private introspection. Arriving after a lengthy hiatus, the full-length record suggests this is more than a routine “comeback.”

On the 13th, THEBLACKLABEL posted the documentary for Taeyang’s fourth full-length album, QUINTESSENCE, to its official social channels. The roughly 15-minute film closely captures Taeyang as he scrutinizes his music and himself.

The film builds on the musical introspection Taeyang explored on his 2023 EP Down to Earth, while also focusing on the more fundamental conflicts and choices he faced finishing his first full album in nine years.

Most striking is his effort to translate the title QUINTESSENCE—meaning essence or core—into music. He prioritizes the process itself—repeatedly questioning direction, trimming and refining—over the finished product, and that insistence on craft gives the album a sincere, measured tone.

The documentary also highlights eclectic collaborations with a range of producers and guest artists. Taeyang’s attempts to broaden his musical palette without losing his identity come through naturally, increasing anticipation for the 10-track album.

Crucially, the film asks less “what kind of music will he make” than “why is he making music now?” After years of working at his own pace, listeners are watching to see what new story he will complete with this release.

Taeyang will release his fourth full album, QUINTESSENCE, on the 18th and begin full promotional activities with the title track “LIVE FAST DIE SLOW.”
