On March 11, industry sources confirmed that the start of filming for the director's new movie has been delayed.
Principal photography had been scheduled to begin in April.
A production representative said, "Director Ryu Seung-wan has been experiencing health issues, so we've postponed the start of production. We'll reschedule filming to accommodate the cast's availability."
In a recent interview with Herald Muse, Ryu said, "I finally have the time to focus on Veteran 3. If Part 2 organized many of my thoughts about Part 1, Part 3 will bring back the pure Seo Do-chul that audiences loved."
The original Veteran, a crime-action film about a metropolitan investigation squad chasing an arrogant, entitled third-generation chaebol heir, opened in 2015 and drew 13.41 million moviegoers.
The 2024 sequel followed relentless Detective Seo Do-chul (Hwang Jung-min) as rookie officer Park Sun-woo (Jung Hae-in) joined the violent-crimes unit and they hunted a serial killer. It attracted 7.52 million viewers.
With Lee Junho reportedly set to join as the villain in Part 3, industry observers are watching closely to see whether production will move forward without further setbacks.
