On March 10, ENA’s Monday–Tuesday drama Honor: Their Court concluded its 12-episode run. Gu Seon-gyu (Choi Young-joon) moved between harrowing confrontations and intimate moments confirming his love for wife Hyun-jin (Lee Chung-ah), keeping viewers riveted until the final frame.
Seon-gyu discovered Shin-jae (Jung Eun-chae) unconscious, only to be ensnared by a trap set by Baek Tae-ju (Yeon Woo-jin). With a double-locked door sealing them in and fire-suppression gas filling the room, he risked collapsing himself. At the critical moment, he didn’t hesitate: he put the sole oxygen mask on Shin-jae and fought to save her, ultimately slipping into hypoxic shock and leaving his survival uncertain.
After Hyun-jin’s desperate vigil, Seon-gyu regained consciousness, rejoined the major crimes unit, and gradually reclaimed the rhythms of everyday life. The couple’s renewed awareness of one another after surviving such a trial gave the finale its warm finish. Hyun-jin’s plea not to be parted and Seon-gyu’s response—that nothing else matters so long as they can look at each other and smile every day—merged into a heartfelt happy ending that left viewers smiling.
Choi offered a layered performance, balancing a detective’s dogged determination with a husband’s earnest devotion. His relentless pursuit of the truth behind a case from two decades ago drove the show’s tension, while his nuanced rendering of conflicted feelings for his wife added genuine emotional warmth. In pivotal scenes, he provided catharsis by standing as a dependable figure his partner could trust and lean on. Choi’s portrayal of steady resolve and heartfelt sincerity resonated deeply with audiences.
Reflecting on how he balanced duty and love, Choi shared his finale thoughts through his agency, ACE Factory: “I watched Honor: Their Court with my palms sweating. Thank you to everyone who loved Honor. I was happy while filming, happy to see the finished series, and happy that so many people supported us. I’ll work hard to bring you another great project. See you soon.”
Meanwhile, Choi is currently appearing onstage in the play French Vault — Who Will Climb the North Wall? As he moves between screen and theater, public interest and expectations for his wide-ranging work continue to grow.
