[TV Daily reporter Choi Hana] Choi Young-joon wrapped up his character’s arc with a hopeful finish and reflected on the series finale of Honor: Their Court.

On the 10th, ENA’s Monday–Tuesday drama Honor: Their Court (hereafter Honor) concluded after 12 episodes. As Gu Seon-gyu, Choi navigated life-or-death confrontations and a tender reconciliation with his wife Hyun-jin (Lee Chung-ah), delivering tense set pieces and emotional depth that held viewers’ attention through the final moments.

Seon-gyu discovers Shin-jae (Jung Eun-chae) unconscious, only to be ensnared in Baek Tae-ju’s (Yeon Woo-jin) trap. Trapped in a double-locked room where fire-suppression gas is being released, he faces a moment where he himself could collapse. With no hesitation, he places the single oxygen mask on Shin-jae and fights on, slipping into hypoxic shock and leaving his fate hanging in the balance.

After Hyun-jin’s desperate vigil, Seon-gyu regains consciousness, returns to the major crimes unit, and reclaims the rhythms of everyday life. Surviving that close call prompts both characters to reassert their love, completing a warm, satisfying ending. Hyun-jin’s plea not to be separated and Seon-gyu’s response — that nothing else matters as long as they can face each other and smile every day — combine into a comforting close that left audiences smiling.

Choi Young-joon rendered Gu Seon-gyu as a fully realized figure, shifting with nuance between a detective’s steely determination and a husband’s heartfelt devotion. He drives the series’ tension with a detective’s sharp instincts and relentless pursuit of the truth behind a case from 20 years ago, while also exposing the character’s complex emotions and inner turmoil in quieter moments, giving the role palpable warmth. At key points, he becomes the dependable partner Hyun-jin can trust and lean on, delivering genuine catharsis for viewers. Choi’s portrayal — steady, earnest, and emotionally honest — resonated deeply.

Balancing the sense of duty that defines a detective with sincere love for his partner, Choi shared parting thoughts through his agency, Ace Factory. “I watched Honor: Their Court with bated breath. Thank you to everyone who loved Honor. I was happy while filming, happy seeing the finished drama, and happy that so many people supported it. I’ll keep working hard to bring you strong projects. See you soon,” he said, conveying deep affection for the series and its fans.

Choi is currently meeting audiences on stage in the play The French Vault — Who Will Climb the North Wall? As he moves between screen and theater, expectations for Choi Young-joon’s wide-ranging career continue to grow.
