[EPN Enpinau reporter Goh Nari] U.S. comedian and actor Bill Cosby lost a civil sexual-assault lawsuit and was ordered to pay roughly 28.8 billion KRW (about $19,296,000).

The California suit accused Cosby of drugging and raping Donna Motsinger, who worked at a restaurant in 1972. On the 23rd, a jury found him liable.

The court awarded the plaintiff $19,296,000 (approximately 28.8 billion KRW).

The ruling dealt another blow to Cosby's long-standing reputation as a beloved national comedian.

As multiple women have come forward with allegations over the years, his public image has steadily unraveled.

After the verdict, Motsinger said she had finally achieved some measure of justice after a long fight and hoped the decision would help other survivors, even if it did not feel complete.

Cosby's legal team rejected the verdict and said they plan to appeal.

Notably, the case was made possible by changes that eased the statute of limitations for sexual-assault claims.

Separate civil suits against Cosby are also pending in New York and Nevada.

Cosby was convicted in a similar case in 2018 and served time, but he was later released on procedural grounds, and related legal battles have continued.

He rose to fame in the 1960s through stand-up and television, and he cultivated the image of "America's dad" after portraying a father of five on the sitcom The Cosby Show.
